Attention 6th grade students homework clinic meets again today after school in 9C.  Be prepared to work by 3:10 and arrange for transportation home if needed.  Homework clinic ends at 4:10.  Remember you can work on Accelerated Math and you can scan at Homework Clinic.

Attention 6th and 7th grade girls interested in trying out for cheerleading….  Tryouts practice will be held and Monday June 1st- Friday June 5th  from 3:20 until 4:30.   You must attend all days.  Please wear comfortable clothes and gym shoes.

 

In order to tryout, you must have a current physical form on file in the front office. If you don’t have a physical on file you need to ask your parents to take you for a physical so that you will have it by the first day of tryouts Monday June 1st.

 

All forms that will need to be filled out by your parents will be given out the first day of try-outs.  A Sign up sheet will be outside the Front office, and if you have any questions please see Ms. Douglas.  Thank and see you at tryouts.

Attention all boys interested in playing football next year for Pierce OR Thurston next year.  The Eagles Skills camp will be held June 15-June 18 from 9:00 to 12:00.  The cost is only $20.  If you have any interest in football, you should attend this camp.  If you plan on playing football next year, see Coach Buehner in room 9E to pick up a camp form.  The camp will address basic football skills in multiple areas.

There is no Student Council meeting this week. The next meeting will be May 7th.

Congratulations to the Track and Field Team Again!  On Wednesday both the boys and girls teams defeated Lincoln Park Middle school.  The boys are now 2-1 while the girls remain undefeated at 3-0!  Keep up the hard work team!

Congratulations to both the boys and girls track and field teams.  In their first meet this year both teams competed very well.  The boys lost a very close meet led by strong races by Jeremy Griffin-Jackson.  The girls team, led by Brianna Nixon, Myra Barajas, and Isis Gibbs, defeated Tomlinson Junior High by nearly 70 points!  The track teams’ next meet is on Monday in Ypsilanti.

April is National Poetry Month!  The Redford Twp District Library is  celebrating by hosting its 5th Annual Teen Poetry Night on Thursday, April 23rd at 7:00pm.  Teens are encouraged to read their own poetry or share poetry written by someone else.  As always, snacks will be served.  Registration is required.  Teens can register at the Youth Desk or by calling 313.531.5960 x105.

Attention all students and staff:

 

Please donate mittens and gloves to the Mittens for Michigan’s Kids Project for the Wayne County family homeless shelter on Michigan Avenue . The families show up at the shelter with only the clothes they are wearing. Last year we delivered 100 pairs of new and gently use mittens to kids that had nothing.  Please consider helping Michigan’s Kids. The collection box will be by the front office this week.

Patriot Idol:  Thanks to all the students who signed up for Patriot Idol. If you signed up, you should receive a notice today from your first hour teacher. Tryouts for the 7th and 8th grade girl’s Basketball Teams will be on January 20, 21, & 22 in Gyms A and B from 3:15 until 4:45. 8th Graders please stop by and sign up in Mr. Gulick’s classroom in 4C.  7th Graders please stop by and sign up in Mr. Taylor’s room in 3E. You must have a physical on file and a check payable to South Redford School for $75.00.  There is also a payment plan, but you have to sign up at Thurston HS at Mr. Chambo’s office before you try out on the 20th.  Any questions may be directed to Mr. Gulick or Mr. Taylor.

Do you have extra gently used mittens or gloves?  Want to help out kids that need warm hats and gloves? Mittens for Michigan’s Kids Project are collecting mittens for the Wayne County family homeless shelter on Michigan Avenue each year. The families show up at the shelter with only the clothes they are wearing. Last year we delivered 100 pairs of new and gently use mittens to kids that had nothing.

Congratulations to the swim team on an excellent season this year.  The Patriot swimmers finished up a strong season on Wednesday at the MEGA league meet at Willow Run.

 

Placing first for the Patriots were the medley relay team of David Duron, Luke Crompton, Alec and Adam Westerber, Luke Crompton in the 200 freestyle, David Duron in the 100 IM, David Duron in the 100 yard backstroke breaking the school record (set by his brother last year) in a time of 1:16.42, Savannah Thomas in the 100 backstroke, and Luke Crompton in the 100 yard breaststroke.

 

Placing second for the Patriots were the girls 200 medley relay team of Savannah Thomas, Maggie Fadoir, Malori Torey, and Erin McGarry, Torey in the 200 freestyle, Alec Westerbur in the 50 butterfly, Malori Torey in the 50 butterfly, Adam Westerbur in the 100 freestyle, the boys 200 freestyle relay of Duron, Crompton, Adam, and Alec (losing the race by 2/100th’s of a second), Katie Lewis in the 100 yard backstroke, and the girls 400 freestyle relay team of Malori Torey, Brittney Voyles, Sarah Baker, and Maggie Fadoir.

 

Placing third for the Patriots were Adam Westerbur in the 100 Individual Medley, and Erin McGarry in the 100 yard breaststroke.

 

Also medaling for the Patriots in individual events were Sarah Baker, Cassie Wessenberg, Brittany Berry, Allie Florence, Lucas Wells, Jourdan Bobbish, Erin McGarry, Brittany Voyles, Katie Lewis, Taraija McCauley, Haley Valentine, Christy Watson, Gilly Cane, Taryn Hechlik, Katelyn Selensky, and Maggie Fadoir.

 

This finishes up a very good season for the Patriot swim team.  The 8th graders performed very well overall and there are a number of 7th graders that will be returning next year to form a solid core for another successful season.

 

Luke Crompton, David Duron, and Adam and Alec Westerbur have qualified for the state invitational swim meet in Holt, Michigan on January 31, so their season will continue for another couple of weeks.

 

Congratulations to all the swimmers on an excellent season.
