Science Olympiad team, there is Science Olympiad practice today after school in room 14C.

Just a note to let you know that even with all the hard times we were still able to collect a lot of toys and filled the bus about two thirds of the way. They were dropped off and delivered to the needy children the day before the big snow. So thank you for all you do for the children.

The 8th grade boys’ basketball team won their final game of the season, 34-14 over Hilbert.  Pierce finishes the season with a perfect 12-0 record.  Curtis Smith had15 points, Xzavier Bowen chipped in with 10 points, Andreel Longs had 8 points, Maurice Reed and Charles McKinney had 6 points, Rashaud Norrell and Reail Page-Pollard each had 4 points, Diante McGowan and Kevin Williams each had 2 points, Devin McQueen and Jeremy Lewis had 1 point each.  Pierce outscored their opponents 397 to 256 for the season.

The final home game for the 7th grade Basketball team was a thriller. The 7th grade boys once again rallied from a 10 point deficit to defeat Blanchette Middle School 24-23. Timely Shooting by Matt Sasseen and Justin Tillman led the comeback.

 

Tuesday’s game against Hoover was another exciting game. Hoover struggled against a stifling second have defense.  The Patriots came within a whisker of pulling this one out. The final score was Hoover 27-Pierce 26. Ryan Chalk led the effort for the Patriots

 

The final game of the season was also a barn-burner against cross town rival Hilbert. Justin Tillman demonstrated great poise in the final moments of the tension filled game. Pierce beat Hilbert by a final score of 32-31. Tyler Bellis and Matt Sasseen both had several key shots in the victory. Ken Lockley led the defense in the final pressure packed quarter.

There is no Student Council meeting this week.

The 8th grade boys remained undefeated on Tuesday with a hard fought 26-22 victory over Taylor Hoover.  Pierce is now 11-0 for the season.  Our final game is at Hilbert today.  Xzavier Bowen led Pierce with 18 points and has elevated his game over the past few games.  Maurice Reed continued his great effort and chipped in with 12 points.  Curtis Smith had 9 points and played very well.  Charles McKinney chipped in with 6 points and worked hard all game.  Diante McGowan scored 4 points and worked very hard on both boards.  Jeremy Lewis played his best game of the year really working on defense, and scored a nice triple.  Reail Page–Pollard and Jalen Hammond really played well and scored 2 points each.  Andreel Longs continued his fine play at both ends of the floor and had 2 points, 7 blocked shots and numerous floor burns.  Great job to all the players. Thanks to Anthony Allen, Brittani Liggins and Armoni Killingham for keeping score.

The Pierce 8th grade boys defeated Blanchette Middle School 37-36.  Pierce is now 10-0 for the season.  Pierce spotted Blanchette a 6-0 lead at halftime by losing all three first half quarters.  Pierce outscored Blanchette 37-30 in the second half.

 

With the game tied, Xzavier Bowen scored on consecuative lay-ups on fast breaks to put Pierce up by 4 points with 2 minutes to go.  Blanchette scored a two pointer to get within two points.  Xzavier Bowen hit a three to put Pierce back on top by five.  Blanchette hit a three to get within two. Curtis Smith was fouled and hit two free throws to put Pierce back up by five again. Blanchette hit another three to get within two again.  Maurice Reed made two free throws to allow Pierce to go up four points with 8 seconds to play.  Blanchette hit a three with time running out and Pierce had the victory. Xzavier Bowen led Pierce with 18 points.  Curtis and Maurice each chipped in with 17 points. Diante McGowan played a solid game on Blanchette’s 6’ 4” center and had 7 points.  Jeremy Lewis and Charles McKinney had 4 points.  Kevin Williams and Kevin Milligan each had 2 points.  Thanks to Anthony Allen and Brittani Liggins for keeping score. Today’s game is at Taylor Hoover.

The 8th grade boys’ basketball defeated Tomlinson Jr. High, 33-22 on Friday.  Pierce is now 9-0 for the season.  Curtis Smith scored a game high 31 points to lead the Patriots.  Maurice Reed  (4pts); Charles McKinney  (6pts); Xzavier Bowen  (4pts); Andreel Longs, Diante McGowan  (10 pts), Rashaud Norrell  (3 pts), Kevin Milligan (2 pts); and Kevin Williams (2pts), played very well and worked great together.  They passed the ball, shared defensive traps, and communicated throughout the game.  Thanks to Armoni and Brittani for keeping score.  Today is the final home game of the season against Inkster.

The 7th grade Basketball team battled the Riverside Ravens Wednesday afternoon. The Ravens were victorious over the Patriots by the score of 22-18. The Ravens stymied the Patriots most of the game. It was not until the final quarter did the Patriots began a comeback led by a Matt Sasseen 3 pointer, coupled with a stifling defensive effort.   Ryan Chalk also distributed the ball while demonstrating good decision making. Melvin Ivey also contributed 4 points

 

The Boys Play Robichaud  today at 4. Coach Taylor is anticipating another stellar defensive effort.

The 8th grade boys’ basketball team defeated Riverside in a close battle, 36-29 on Wednesday.  Pierce is now 8-0.  Maurice Reed played well and scored 19 points to tie with game honors with the point guard of Riverside.  Curtis Smith chipped in with 13 points.  Diante McGowan scored 11 points and had many rebounds.  Charles McKinney had 6 points and did a nice job on both ends of the floor. Rashaud Norrell scored 5 points and played well.  Kevin Williams played an excellent game and had 4 points.  Andrew Hamilton played his best game of the year and scored 3 points.  Kevin Milligan played his usual solid game and scored 2 points.  Dan Adams scored 1 point and played well. Thanks to Anthony Allen, Brittani Liggins, and Armoni Killingham for keeping score

Attention all students: Join Math Counts!  All 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are welcome to join the Pierce Math Counts team. 

 

The team will meet on Thursday, December 11 at 3:10 in Ms. Hofer’s room – Room 14E.  Practices will be every Thursday after school from 3:10 until 4:00.  See Ms. Hofer or your math teacher for more information.

The 7th grade basketball team lost a hard fought game to the Ecorse Red Raiders. The final score was 28-26. Justin Tillman led a comeback effort that came a little short. Chris Taylor played vigorously both offensively and defensively.

 

The Patriots next Game is Wednesday at Riverside. GO PATRIOTS!!

The 8th grade boys basketball team defeated Ecorse on Monday, 44-24.  Pierce is now 7-0 for the season.  Maurice reed and Curtis Smith each had 10 points.  Xzavier Bowen scored 8 points.  Diante McGowan scored 5 points.  Rashaud Norrell, Charles McKinney, and Andreel Longs each had 3 points.  Kevin Williams and Jeremy Lewis each chipped in with 2 points.  The boys continue to improve and play more like a team than as individuals.  The next five games will prove difficult to finish the season.  All the games are away except next Monday for our last home game.  Thanks to Armoni and Brittani for keeping score.  Today pictures are at 3:45.

Attention all Students: Join Math Counts!

All 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are welcome to join the Pierce Math Counts team. 

 

The team will meet on Thursday, December 11, 2008  at 3:10 pm in Ms. Hofer’s room – Room 14E.  Practices will be every Thursday after school from 3:10 until 4:00.  The Math Counts team will compete in local competitions. 

                                                                                  

Have fun doing math!  All students are welcome!  See Ms. Hofer or your math teacher for more information.

Congratulations to the 7th grade boys basketball team in their 26-16 victory over a gritty West team from Taylor Mi. The Patriots stalwart defense was led by Jalen Shannon, Ronald Gates, Mel Ivey and Michael Flagg was stifling, often limiting team West to only one shot. Seth Pawloski ignited the offense in the second half with an exhilarating 3 point shot. Justin Tillman led all scorers with 10 points.

 

Lets hear it for those energetic Cheerleaders GOOOO Patriots OH YEAH!!!

The 8th grade boys defeated Taylor West on Wednesday, 33-19.  Pierce is now 5-0.  Xzavier Bowen and Curtis Smith led Pierce with 13 points each.  Both played extremely well and continue to work hard.  Maurice Reed also played very well and chipped in with 12 points.  Diante McGowan had 4 points and played a strong game on both boards with 12 rebounds.  Jeremy Lewis, Rashaud Norrell, Charles McKinney, Andreel Longs, and Kevin Milligan each chipped in with 2 points, and helped the team on both ends of the floor.  Daniel Adams scored 1 point on a free throw and played his best game.  The rest of the team continues to work hard and chip in with their effort and hustle.  Thanks to the scorekeepers.
